Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of three years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least three years’ experience in industrial outside sales recommended
  • Some experience in handling compressed gases and welding knowledge preferred
  • Customer service or sales experience in the local market recommended
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and appropriate level of auto insurance coverage
  • Reliable transportation and ability to work flexible hours
  • Proficient computer skills using Google systems and CRM system (specifically Salesforce.com)
  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting information in front of a group
  • Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to operate in a drug-free workplace

Responsibilities

  • Sell welding products, industrial and specialty gases, abrasive products (wheels, disks, belts), and safety apparel/equipment (goggles, helmets, hearing protection, welding jackets)
  • Advise customers on tools, hardware, materials needed, and procedures to follow
  • Call on prospective and existing customers to increase sales
  • Work with Airgas Product Specialists and VMI Technicians to bring value and added resources to improve customer profitability
  • Lead and promote safety, attend safety meetings, strictly observe safety rules, report and investigate injuries/accidents promptly
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere and build strong relationships with branch personnel, customers, vendors, co-workers, and management
  • Develop sales objectives for the territory and recommend appropriate action
  • Achieve profitable sales targets in the assigned territory through sales of all products, related gas handling, and safety equipment
  • Increase sales and profit margin through penetration of assigned accounts and closing new accounts
  • Provide customer-specific safety training in compressed gas handling and cryogenics
  • Answer customer inquiries and resolve complaints satisfactorily
  • Actively pursue and acquire new and competitive accounts, emphasizing gases, business, and product supply agreements
  • Expand existing customer base with all product lines from Airgas NorPac inventory
  • Maintain and upgrade selling skills and technical/product knowledge
  • Complete daily use of Salesforce, ensuring data accuracy and completeness
  • Prepare annual sales analysis and forecasts for the manager
  • Provide market and competitor information to the manager
  • Maintain a professional and neat appearance of self and vehicle
  • Handle customer inquiries related to billing problems, cylinder balances, order status, and delivery times promptly and courteously, with follow-up
  • Manage pricing strategies and gross margins of assigned accounts
  • Schedule joint sales calls with vendors and Airgas Product Specialists
