Requirements

  • Experience managing senior engineering teams and Staff+ ICs, and leading teams through scaling challenges
  • Strong background in scalability and performance optimization, with a track record of improving latency, reliability, and interaction responsiveness at scale
  • Led complex, end-to-end data loading initiatives and driven technical strategy for core infrastructure
  • Ability to create collaborative, empowering, supportive, and challenging environments where engineers do their best work
  • Deep background in product and technology, enabling asking the right questions, balancing product, tech, and people concerns, and making hard tradeoffs
  • Rigorous thinking, prepared to tackle toughest technical problems, understand trade-offs, and enable teams to make decisions and progress
  • Thrives in ambiguity and change, especially around organizational structure and role boundaries, enjoys jumping into areas needing attention and learning

Responsibilities

  • Build and manage a diverse and inclusive team of engineers working on foundational infrastructure that supports Notion’s core product features, creating a healthy environment embodying Notion's values
  • Recruit, coach, and develop engineers—ensuring regular feedback and supporting personal and professional growth
  • Facilitate planning, including prioritization, sequencing, and staffing of work for the team
  • Own execution in the team to develop a steady cadence of delivering value to users, maintaining a high-quality bar for everything shipped
  • Work with customer teams and leadership to understand company strategy and set the team's direction accordingly
  • Shape Notion's engineering organization by helping develop technical practices, recruiting and onboarding strategy, planning and prioritization processes, and more
  • Drive strategic initiatives to scale Notion to support massive workspace sizes, evolve Offline Mode toward a local-first experience, and set and execute long-term strategy for scalability and performance, especially around data loading
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure infrastructure empowers product teams and delivers value to users
