Position Overview

Virta Health is dedicated to transforming type 2 diabetes and weight-loss care. We are seeking an experienced physician executive to lead our expanding team of physicians and nurse practitioners within the Virta Medical Group (VMG). This role is crucial for scaling our evidence-based, personalized care model, which focuses on nutritional guidelines and the judicious use of anti-obesity medications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Virta Medical Group (VMG): Guide a high-performing team of physicians and nurse practitioners, fostering a culture of clinical excellence, operational efficiency, and collaborative support.
  • Culture Development: Build culture through empathetic leadership, active listening, and by example as a compassionate, professional clinician.
  • Team Development: Develop and mentor clinical managers, fostering leadership skills and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Talent Management: Oversee the recruitment, training, and onboarding of new clinicians to meet the growing needs of VMG. Manage clinician evaluations, providing feedback, conducting performance reviews, and overseeing hiring, promotion, and termination decisions.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and manage quality assurance programs, ensuring adherence to best practices and optimizing patient outcomes. Collaborate with clinical safety leaders to improve care quality at scale, integrating peer-reviewed evidence and clinical metrics.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with coaching, product, and operations teams to align clinical goals with business objectives.
  • External Representation: Represent Virta externally in commercial and academic settings.
  • Patient Care: Maintain a small patient panel, providing hands-on care for patients with type-II diabetes, pre-diabetes, and obesity.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience directly managing physicians and nurse practitioners in a dynamic, high-accountability environment.
  • Proven experience in hiring, firing, evaluating, and promoting physicians and non-physicians.
  • Experience in a business/corporate role or a leadership role in a large private practice or similar organization is highly preferred.
  • This is not a role for an academic division director or department chief who leads by consensus; we seek a leader with direct management experience and decision-making authority.
