Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor’s degree preferred) with related experience or equivalent combination
  • At least two years’ experience in industrial sales
  • At least five years’ experience in outside sales (at least five years directly related industry experience may be considered in lieu)
  • Some experience in handling compressed gases preferred
  • Welding product knowledge a plus
  • Customer service or sales experience in local market
  • Proficiency working with personal computer applications such as Google Suite (Sheets, Slides, Docs)
  • Ability to work independently and under some pressure to meet deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and comprehend safety data sheets
  • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet customer needs and management expectations
  • Must be able to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace

Responsibilities

  • Sell welding products, industrial and specialty gases; advise customers on tools, hardware, materials, and procedures
  • Sell abrasive products (wheels, disks, belts) and safety apparel/equipment (goggles, helmets, hearing protection, welding jackets, etc.)
  • Call on prospective and existing customers to increase sales
  • Work with Airgas Product Specialists and VMI Technicians to bring value and added resources to improve profitability
  • Adhere to company policies including safety and use of personal protective equipment
  • Lead and promote safety, attend safety meetings, strictly observe safety rules, report and investigate injuries/accidents promptly
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating effectively with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management
  • Build strong relationships with branch personnel and create open communication with branch managers to grow and support business
  • Actively pursue and acquire new and competitive accounts with emphasis on gases, business, and product supply agreements
  • Expand existing customer base with all product lines from Airgas inventory
  • Maintain and upgrade selling skills and technical/product knowledge
  • Complete and turn in sales-related paperwork (call reports, cylinder audits, month-end reports, etc.) in a timely manner
  • Prepare annual sales analysis and forecasts for the district manager
  • Provide market and competitor information to district manager
  • Maintain a professional and neat appearance of self and vehicle when representing the company
  • Ensure customer inquiries related to billing problems, cylinder balances, order status, time of delivery, etc., are promptly and courteously handled with follow-up as necessary
  • Manage pricing strategies and gross margins of assigned accounts
  • Schedule joint sales calls with vendors and Airgas Product Specialists
  • Perform any reasonable work request that falls within qualifications but not specifically described
