Position Overview

Appcues is seeking a modern marketing leader to spearhead our next phase of growth. This is a pivotal executive role responsible for leading a talented and motivated team that is already achieving great results. We are looking for an individual who understands and leverages the synergy between brand, product marketing, community, and content to build a sustainable engine for ARR growth, rather than solely focusing on MQL volume. The ideal candidate brings clarity and composure amidst urgency, empowers individual contributors, fosters team unity, and knows when to provide guidance versus when to allow autonomy. This role requires a leader who can align and amplify team strengths through inspiration, not micromanagement.

The successful candidate will be proficient in the modern marketing technology stack, understand the impact of AI on marketing, and recognize the enduring principles of human buying behavior. A highly experimental mindset, a willingness to test and learn, adaptability, and a unique personal approach are essential. This role is ideal for someone excited to collaborate with a CEO who values marketing beyond traditional MQL metrics.

What You’ll Own

  • Marketing Capabilities & Budget: You will be responsible for all marketing functions and the complete marketing budget at Appcues.
  • Pipeline & ARR Growth: Your primary objective will be to drive pipeline and new ARR growth, encompassing both new logo acquisition and customer expansion.
  • Team Leadership: You will lead a team of strong senior individual contributors across:
    • Product Marketing
    • Customer Marketing
    • Brand & Design
    • Content Marketing
    • (Support will be provided to secure the necessary budget for a demand generation partner when appropriate.)

Appcues has recently validated and established a bold five-year strategy, supported by new product and finance leadership. This role is crucial for bringing this strategy to market effectively, requiring the ability to test, learn, adapt, and build momentum quickly while maintaining focus on key objectives.

A significant focus will be placed on deepening relationships with best-fit customers. This involves close collaboration with Sales (new business, expansion, and renewals) and Customer Success to align efforts around intent-rich accounts, enable sales execution, and ensure exceptional customer experiences throughout the entire funnel.

Who You Are

  • B2B SaaS Marketing Experience: You have a proven track record of building or scaling a B2B SaaS marketing function. This could be as a primary leader or a strong second-in-command ready for a step-up opportunity.
  • Clear Communication & Coaching: You excel at setting clear goals and expectations, and then supporting your team through coaching and guidance, allowing them the space to excel.
  • Team Unification: You have a talent for uniting high-performing individuals without creating silos, leading with calm confidence, especially in fast-paced or high-pressure situations.
  • Customer-Centric Approach: Your focus begins and ends with the customer, making them the hero by amplifying their stories and working backward from their needs.
  • Collaborative & Data-Driven: You thrive in transparent, highly collaborative environments, demonstrating curiosity, candor, and a data-driven approach to team alignment and progress.
  • Deep ABM Expertise: You possess a profound understanding of account-based marketing, going beyond superficial strategies to effectively align Sales and Marketing for attracting and converting best-fit customers across various segments and verticals.
  • Strategic & Executional Acumen: You can operate effectively at both high-level strategic planning and detailed execution, a key expectation for leaders at Appcues.
  • Brand Building & Storytelling: You believe in the power of long-term brand building, are comfortable with unconventional approaches to stand out, and can translate complex products into simple, compelling narratives.
