Job Description: Tech Ops Engineer

Who We Are

Our mission at Sourcegraph is to make it so that everyone can code, not just ~0.1% of the population.

Everything is changing in how software gets built, and Sourcegraph builds tools that make it easier at scale. Code Search helps devs explore and understand massive codebases. Amp, our agentic coding tool, dramatically accelerates the time it takes to write new code and tackle complex problems like migrating and transforming code.

We’re trusted by engineering teams at leading companies like Stripe, Uber, and Palo Alto Networks, and with $225M in funding from investors like a16z, Sequoia, and Redpoint, we are building the tools that will define the next era of enterprise software development. We’re a globally distributed team with a culture of high agency, direct communication, and deep love for developers.

If you want to work at the bleeding edge of software and do the most meaningful work of your career, join us.

Hours & Location

  • 🌎 Location: While we hire almost anywhere in the world, we have a preference for someone to reside in the following locations for this role:
    • North America / Zone 2
  • Work Ethic: We do not subscribe to “I do my best work when I work 40 hours a week.” People we hire at Sourcegraph believe that building outstanding things means working very hard — smarter and more hours than the competition.

Why This Job Is Exciting

We strive to make Sourcegraph the best company where exceptionally talented people can thrive. As a member of the quickly scaling Tech Ops team at Sourcegraph, you will have more responsibility, upside, and growth potential than anywhere else otherwise comparable. You will manage major proactive strategic activities as well as respond to reactive day-to-day tactical requests with the goal of ultimately owning aspects of the IT function.

The Tech Ops team helps implement, build, integrate, upgrade, and maintain all of our enterprise and internal applications. Tech Ops empowers the rest of the business to reach their goals by owning the systems that they rely on every day. We are looking for an experienced IT professional to support a remarkable high agency all-remote team. If you join us, we know you’ll make a big impact!

What You'll Do (Timeline)

📅 Within one month, you will…

  • Start building trusting relationships with your teammates and peers.
  • Understand the projects that Tech Ops is working on, how those projects contribute to our company goals, as well as their current status, risks, and mitigations.
  • Begin identifying areas in need of further automation or improvement.
  • Lead onboarding and offboarding of teammates.
  • Meet with department leads to further define the success requirements for their teams.

📅 Within three months, you will…

  • Have peers across the organization enthusiastically wanting to work with you because you reliably follow-through and have provided areas of automation that have already streamlined key parts of the business.
  • Contribute to our Okta environment by integrating systems and building Okta workflows.
  • Identify solutions to manual tasks across the organization in an effort to reduce human-based error.
  • Lead teammate trainings and contribute to our async documentation.

📅 Within six months, you will…

  • Become the enterprise-wide subject matter expert for IT matters, including access controls, vendor management, and onboarding/offboarding processes.
  • Collaborate with team leaders to design and implement a process for role-based access modifications.
  • Monitor and report on all Sourcegraph assets and systems and their compliance status.

About You

You are an experienced and visionary people-driven IT engineer with the skills to effectively support our rapidly scaling teams. You thrive in a high growth environment and can contribute to a team wherever necessary, acting as a systems expert and a tactical contributor.
