Candidates must possess over 5 years of sales engineering or technical pre-sales experience, preferably in enterprise software, with a proven track record supporting six-figure+ enterprise deals. A strong understanding of the software development lifecycle, DevSecOps, or the open source ecosystem is required, along with experience engaging Engineering, Security, and Compliance teams in complex buying cycles. Hands-on familiarity with DevOps tools such as GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Artifactory, and Maven is necessary, as is comfort with scripting or programming languages like bash and Python. Excellent communication skills that translate technical depth into business impact are essential, as is a self-starter mentality with adaptability, resourcefulness, and energy for fast-moving environments. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field is preferred. Bonus points include a background in cybersecurity, DevOps tooling, or software composition analysis (SCA), experience creating developer-facing content, familiarity with enterprise procurement processes, a consistent history of exceeding quota, and proficiency with solution selling methodologies.
The Senior Sales Engineer will serve as the technical authority and trusted advisor to Fortune 500 clients, driving technical sales cycles by leading discovery, delivering demos, and guiding prospects through RFPs, RFIs, POCs, and technical evaluations. They will articulate technology and product positioning to both technical and business audiences, partner with Account Executives to develop winning deal strategies for complex enterprise opportunities, and create compelling business cases highlighting ROI and strategic impact for customers. This role involves engaging stakeholders to build and nurture relationships, channeling customer feedback to product and engineering teams to influence product direction, and representing FOSSA at industry events, with partners, and in developer-facing content. Additionally, the Senior Sales Engineer will identify and lead initiatives to continuously improve the customer experience.
