Requirements

3rd or 4th class operating engineer’s certificate
High school diploma or equivalency
5+ years of experience in plant operations preferred
Strong mechanical aptitude
Instrumentation/electrical aptitude (an asset)
Ability to read and interpret piping schematics/diagrams/blueprints
Track record of success in safety, environmental, and quality programs
Computer skills for distributed control systems operation and basic data-processing (MS Office)
Ability to work 8-hour rotating shifts Monday through Sunday, including after hours, weekends, and beyond scheduled shifts
Flexibility to work required shifts during plant outages
Ability to travel to the US for training or to support other plants

Responsibilities

Controlling and monitoring the Air Separation process (e.g., steam system, compressors, distillation equipment, DCS operation)
Taking field readings and performing equipment inspections
Performing preventative maintenance tasks
Operating motors, compressors, pumps, distillation columns, process valves, manual and pneumatic valves
Utilizing written procedures for starting and stopping equipment
Isolating systems for maintenance using work permits and lock out tag out process
Performing water chemistry testing
Operating systems from remote location via Distributed Control System
Contributing at plant turnarounds as required
Working in confined space situations (as entrant, attendant, or monitor)
Preparing and submitting documentation (Standard Operating Procedures, internal/external audits, management of change documents)
Monitoring activities of external contractors and conducting safety training for contractors
Following Lockout Tag Out Procedures and issuing Safe Work Permits
Standing rotating watches outside normal working hours
Working alongside Maintenance and Instrument/Electrical Technicians to maintain equipment
