Engineering Manager, Collections

Position Overview

Affirm is revolutionizing credit to provide honest and user-friendly payment options, enabling consumers to "buy now, pay later" without hidden fees or compounding interest. The Collections team, within the Repayments area, is dedicated to building a robust platform that maximizes recovery from delinquent users. This involves sending the right message to the right people at the right time, while actively monitoring and detecting issues and ensuring high system reliability. By collaborating closely with product managers and backbook risk teams, you will manage loans throughout their delinquency lifecycle and develop effective recovery strategies. The Repayments team's vision is to create simple, transparent, and flexible repayment experiences that foster long-term customer loyalty, which is crucial for Affirm's strong unit economics.

We are seeking a highly motivated Engineering Manager to help build this team in Poland or Spain.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and Grow the Team: Lead, mentor, and develop an engineering team responsible for the core systems of our delinquent loan recovery processes.
  • Technical Mentorship: Mentor engineers on the team to enhance their design skills, code quality, and testing practices.
  • System Ownership: Own the availability, reliability, and performance of your team’s systems.
  • Product Collaboration: Partner with product managers to design and build best-in-class systems and processes for collections.
  • Cross-Team Partnership: Collaborate with a diverse range of engineering teams working on solutions across the entire loan repayment lifecycle at Affirm.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships and engage with senior management within the organization.
  • On-Call Rotation: Participate in an on-call rotation as a requirement for this role.

Requirements

  • Experience: 7+ years of proven experience in a software engineering role with leadership responsibilities, and 1+ years as an Engineering Manager.
  • Passion for Fintech: A strong drive to improve consumer financial services.
  • Team Management: Prior experience in growing and managing a high-performing engineering team.
  • Backend Development: Fluency in backend development.
  • Product Lifecycle Experience: Prior experience architecting, building, launching, and maintaining consumer-scale products.
  • Communication Skills: Strong cross-team communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Bonus: Knowledge of the basic loan lifecycle and delinquency assessment is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Pay Grade: P
  • Equity Grade: Spain 6
  • Base Pay Range (Spain): €101,000 - €131,000 per year.
    • Note: Employees new to Affirm typically start at the beginning of the pay range. Affirm uses a transparent pay structure based on factors like location, experience, and skills.
  • Total Compensation: Includes base pay, potential monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits.
