We are seeking a hands-on, technically deep Director of Engineering to lead our Pay Product software team. This role involves managing and building a team of server engineers, mentoring them, and establishing best practices for delivering quality software on time. You will collaborate with Data Scientists to build tools for identifying fraud and payment anomalies, and empower subject matter experts to create value and reduce healthcare costs.

The ideal candidate possesses a broad range of skills in backend services and tools, technical leadership, and people leadership. You are passionate about developing performant platforms, mentoring developers, managing deliverables through cross-functional communication, and staying involved in the team's day-to-day challenges. You are adept at driving architectural and engineering operations best practices, and influencing the adoption of tools that scale velocity, including automated testing and AI code generation.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and production releases of robust, observable, and intuitive solutions for healthcare claims Pay product lines.
• Manage and grow a team of developers responsible for the backend services and tools for Machinify’s Pay product.
• Develop plans and track production features for on-time, quality releases.
• Analyze team performance data to identify and address bottlenecks, developing phased plans to improve velocity.
• Own projects aligned with the company's product development strategy.
• Influence the direction of the underlying platform to ensure extensibility, scalability, and security.
• Measure and report on the impact of team initiatives.
• Collaborate with stakeholders including Product Managers, Backend Engineers, the UX team, and customers.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience managing more than one team of developers.
• 2+ years of experience managing engineering leaders (e.g., Principal Engineers, Engineering Managers).
• 8+ years of experience in production application development, backend server development, and developing micro-services at scale.
• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in hiring, career development, and performance management for engineering teams and leads.
• Experience leading cross-functionally with product managers, other engineering teams, the UI team, and customer account representatives.
• Strong orientation towards building and utilizing lightweight mechanisms, including conducting retrospectives, operations reviews, and backlog scrubs.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Python, Rust, Rails, Java, Go).
• Experience implementing best practices for incorporating AI into user flows.
• Familiarity with standard development tools and processes (e.g., Github Workflows, Git, JIRA).
• Comfort with ambiguity and a proactive approach to taking initiative.
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Enthusiasm for making an impact in the US healthcare industry.
