Requirements

Candidates should have 6+ years of experience in business development at hypergrowth e-commerce and/or consumer technology companies, with a proven track record in defining and executing a rigorous, goals-focused strategy to build deeply beneficial business development relationships. Demonstrated experience in strategic thinking leading to data-driven recommendations, deep knowledge of the technology and e-commerce ecosystem across the US with strong external relationships, and exceptional collaboration and relationship-building skills are required. Excellent project management skills, the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, and a proactive, self-starter attitude with high data competency are also necessary. Experience owning partnerships in areas such as shipping, payments, product/platform, brands, or distribution, and experience in analyzing and valuing strategic acquisitions are considered nice to have. Team members must be within commuting distance of San Francisco, New York, or Los Angeles hubs.

Responsibilities

The Manager of Business Development will build strong, successful commercial relationships with Whatnot’s major strategic partners, including negotiating and managing critical relationships with shipping and logistics companies, payment providers, tech platforms, and global brands. Responsibilities include managing alliances with strategic partners by defining joint roadmaps, driving execution, delivering commercial advantage, and maintaining strong partner relations. The role involves building strong working relationships with cross-functional teams across Whatnot to operationalize strategic partnerships, supporting corporate development opportunities through research and due diligence, and advising internal teams on structuring deals. The individual will execute in an intense, fast-paced, and highly iterative environment.
