  • Qualification as a Legal Professional (LLB)
  • Admission to practice law
  • Mastery of a specialty area and full knowledge of industry practices, typically obtained through advanced education
  • Highly qualified individual with expertise in providing legal advisory services on commercial contracts, property laws, competition law, employment law, disputes, corporate matters, litigation/arbitration
  • Recognized expert capable of managing large projects or processes with considerable latitude in determining deliverables and limited oversight
  • Ability to contribute to defining direction for new products, processes, standards, or operational plans based on business strategy
  • Skills in detailed information gathering, analysis, and investigation for difficult, moderately complex, and undefined problems
  • Experience developing solutions to moderately complex problems and making moderate to significant improvements independently
  • Strong communication skills to represent the organization as primary contact, negotiate, and influence decision-making
  • Ability to provide guidance, coaching, training, delegate work, review work products, and act as a team leader or mentor

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice, counsel, and service to internal business clients concerning legal rights, obligations, and privileges of corporations
  • Draw up contracts involving leases, licenses, purchases, sales, real estate, employment, insurance, mergers, acquisitions, marketing and advertising agencies, research and development, and related matters
  • Keep current on legislative issues, statutes, decisions, and ordinances of quasi-judicial bodies
  • Examine legal data to determine advisability of defending or prosecuting lawsuits
  • Act as an agent of the corporation in various transactions
  • Advise the company regarding concerns on risk assessment and anti-trust regulations
  • Develop, review, or implement company-wide and/or functionally specific training programs
  • Oversee corporate governance matters and its various committees
  • Work with outside counsel to direct activities
  • Deliver and/or manage projects from design to implementation, adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills
  • Coach, review, and delegate work to lower level specialists
  • Manage large projects or processes that may span outside of immediate job area
