Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business with a concentration in Human Resources
  • 7+ years of experience working in Human Resources within a manufacturing environment required
  • SHRM CP or SCP Certification or HRCI SPHR or PHR Certification - Preferred
  • Union Experience highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Handling employee relations activities at designated branch plant locations
  • Understanding and applying Federal, State laws (e.g., EEOC, FMLA, ADA, HIPPA, COBRA, NLRB) and other legal requirements to protect the company against litigation and maintain non-union status where applicable
  • Conducting surveys on employee morale, local wages/benefits, employment issues and developing reports and recommendations to management
  • Working with management to communicate, train, coach and assist employees to maintain effective employee morale
  • Assisting with local hourly recruiting activities including diversity hiring, employee tracking and interviewing
  • Advising and participating in employee and management counseling regarding company policies, procedures, legal requirements, employee performance, discipline, benefits, restructuring, etc
  • Promoting plant culture, company values and Diversity, Equality and Inclusion initiatives
  • Developing long term HR goals and metrics for HR in the plant
  • Managing training and development for plant personnel
  • Overseeing talent review and performance management processes to sustain a culture of accountability
  • Handling succession planning for all plant positions, including summer interns and Emerging Leaders
  • Supporting development planning for all plant personnel designated as high-potential
  • Managing employee recognition programs
  • Overseeing community relations programs
  • Ensuring plant compliance with Sonoco HR policy
