Requirements

  • Knowledge of utility transmission and distribution system design, operations, maintenance, construction principles and practices, safety standards, and business processes
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to present theory, concepts, and hands-on technical instruction with clarity, confidence, and enthusiasm
  • Leadership and coaching abilities
  • Ability to use PC desktop applications (e.g., Microsoft Word & Excel)
  • Working knowledge of labor contracts
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in Transmission, Distribution, and/or Field Service design and/or installation, servicing customers, and supervising employees
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Massachusetts Driver’s License
  • D.O.T. certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop and conduct technical training programs for Electric Operations, Gas Operations, and Meter Technical employees, including classroom, on-the-job, conceptual, and hands-on methods
  • Participate in testing and evaluation of new tools, materials, and equipment
  • Revise and maintain standards and procedures
  • Conduct quality assurance audits
  • Supervise, evaluate, and certify field employees
  • Analyze job tasks and current field performance with field personnel and supervisors to determine training needs and program content
  • Implement training programs and field quality audit programs
  • Supervise, direct, and instruct trainees during classroom, hands-on, and on-the-job training assignments
  • Evaluate trainee performance during training and follow up through field visits, observations, and refresher training
  • Update and incorporate new procedures and revisions into training programs
  • Review work with vendors, technical experts, engineers, and field personnel to provide operational input on new equipment selection, operation, and development of new construction standards
  • Serve as local technical lead or coach for other supervisors (Senior Supervisor level)
  • Develop and coach other supervisors in various aspects of their role (Senior Supervisor level)
  • Authorize re-allocation of resources in situations with conflicting priorities (Senior Supervisor level)
  • Drive innovation and change in business processes (Senior Supervisor level)
  • Lead area work center activities during manager absence (Senior Supervisor level)
  • Represent manager at department, customer, and community meetings (Senior Supervisor level)
