Coinbase is seeking an experienced engineering leader to build and manage full-stack engineering teams. This role involves guiding the development of features, services, and infrastructure across both web and mobile platforms, with a focus on powering highly performant, highly available systems for traders worldwide. You will architect robust systems supporting various instrument types and work in close collaboration with product and design to deliver a best-in-class product experience.

Responsibilities

• Build and manage full-stack engineering teams.
• Guide the development of features, services, and infrastructure across web and mobile.
• Coach direct reports to have a positive impact and support their career growth.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into a quarterly roadmap.
• Break down complex projects and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Act as a technical voice, aiding in architectural decisions and fostering a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Work closely with talent acquisition to identify and recruit exceptional engineers.
• Contribute to and own processes that drive engineering quality and meet engineering SLAs.
• Architect robust systems that are easy to build upon, supporting many instrument types (Spot, Futures, Perpetual Futures, and more).
• Translate ideas into tangible, high-value features for customers.

Requirements

• At least 7 years of experience in software engineering, especially with web-scale traffic.
• At least 2 years of engineering management experience.
• Strong understanding of high-quality code and effective software engineering processes.
• Execution-focused mindset, capable of navigating ambiguity and delivering results.
• Ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with short-term planning.
• Experience in creating, delivering, and operating multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Ability to be hands-on when needed (writing/reviewing code, technical documents, participating in on-call, leading incidents, triaging bugs).
• Passion for building an open financial system.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services over time.
• High bar for product excellence, combining customer obsession with comprehensive observability.
• Pride in staying up-to-date with the latest industry standards and best practices.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with active trading systems or similar high availability financial systems.
• Active trading of crypto or other financial instruments.
• Experience in companies that have undergone rapid growth.
• Experience upgrading significant parts of legacy systems or re-architecting existing systems.
