Requirements

Candidates must have 10+ years of experience in systems engineering and software development, including Staff+ level roles with experience leading broad, high-impact initiatives. Deep, hands-on experience designing and operationalizing observability systems across metrics, logs, traces, and profiling is essential. Proven experience defining and driving adoption of practices like SLOs, golden paths, and instrumentation standards across multiple teams or organizations is required. The ability to design systems and solutions in complex, high-scale environments with fluid priorities and ambiguity is necessary. Strategic thinking, customer- and team-orientation, and strong communication skills are also required. Experience as an AI power user is a plus.

Responsibilities

The Staff Site Reliability Engineer will set and drive a multi-year reliability strategy to enable engineers to deliver reliable products at scale. This role involves influencing organizational culture and practice, shaping how engineers instrument, monitor, debug, and learn from their systems. The engineer will act as a technical leader across teams and a mentor to engineers tackling complex systems problems. Responsibilities include defining what "good" observability looks like, partnering with service teams to achieve it, and elevating reliability practices across the organization. The role also includes hands-on contribution to solving problems, unblocking adoption of platform practices, and building solutions to demonstrate best practices.

Unlike many competitors, Zapier offers a user-friendly interface that makes it easy for anyone to set up automations.
