Staff Engineer, Data Infrastructure

Position Overview

Flex is a growth-stage FinTech company revolutionizing the rent payment experience. We empower renters by allowing them to pay rent throughout the month on a schedule that fits their financial needs. Our mission is to provide flexibility over renters' most significant recurring expense. We are seeking motivated Staff Engineers to join our Data Infrastructure team, which is building a scalable, modern data platform to support Flex's financial products. This role is crucial in enabling Machine Learning and Business Intelligence across the company, directly influencing our growth and strategy. We foster a culture of data-driven decision-making, requiring timely, accurate, and actionable data.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain high-quality data infrastructure services, including Data Lake, Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, and data access layers.
• Develop robust and efficient DBT models and jobs for analytics reporting and machine learning modeling.
• Collaborate closely with the Analytics team on data modeling, reporting, and data ingestion.
• Create scalable real-time streaming pipelines and offline ETL pipelines.
• Design, implement, and manage a data warehouse providing secure access to large datasets.
• Continuously improve data operations through automation, optimization of data delivery, and infrastructure redesign for scalability.
• Create engineering documentation for designs, runbooks, and best practices.

Requirements

• Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years of industry experience in data infrastructure/data engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of industry experience using DBT.
  • Minimum of 4 years of industry experience using Snowflake and its basic features.
  • Minimum of 4 years of industry experience using Infrastructure as Code tools (CDK and Terraform).
• Technical Skills:
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with Python and SQL.
  • Java experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with AWS services, including Lambda, Step Functions, Glue, RDS, EKS, DMS, EMR.
  • Industry experience with big data platforms and tools such as Kafka, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Cassandra, Airflow.
  • Industry experience working with relational and NoSQL databases in a production environment.
  • Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
• Core Competencies:
  • Prior experience working on cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with CI/CD for improving code stability and quality.

Compensation

The salary compensation range is commensurate with experience and internal leveling guidelines.

• NY/NJ/CA: $221,000 - $237,000
• Other States: $199,000 - $213,000
