Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of experience in transportation/delivery supervision
  • Broad knowledge of transportation/delivery operations, methods and procedures
  • Strong leadership, communication and people development skills
  • Ability to openly and effectively communicate with all associates/departments within the company
  • Strong understanding of DOT, inventory control, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements

Responsibilities

  • Achieve all safety, service, and cost targets in the Transportation department; lead with a safety mindset to ensure injury-free operations for associates, customers, and the public
  • Champion safety procedures, processes, and training to create and maintain a safety-first culture
  • Oversee and develop Transportation Managers through one-on-one coaching, training on policy and procedures, problem resolution, and leading by example
  • Oversee and develop drivers and Transportation personnel by discussing performance with Managers, creating plans to address gaps, driving engagement and retention, and embodying US Foods values
  • Build high-performing teams by reviewing staffing requirements, monitoring interviewing and hiring, reviewing performance, coaching to achieve targets, and delivering disciplinary action
  • Monitor production goals, maintain zero-error attitude for accuracy and customer satisfaction; anticipate, analyze, and troubleshoot delivery problems with cost-effective, legal solutions
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with company, state, and federal DOT regulations
  • Ensure optimum delivery reliability by developing efficient production flow processes and identifying process improvements and cost reduction strategies aligned with business objectives
  • Identify and stop waste, improve processes for safer and more efficient work
  • Analyze daily performance measures, identify weaknesses, and recommend changes to the VP Operations to achieve productivity objectives
  • In union facilities, assist HR and VP Operations in interpreting collective bargaining agreements, administering discipline, settling grievances, and participating in arbitrations
  • Supervise directly: Transportation Managers, union/non-union transportation associates (Dispatchers, Clerks), Routers (location-dependent); indirectly: union/non-union drivers
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager
