Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and maintain active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. A minimum of 7 years of legal experience is required, with a specialization in product counseling, open source software licensing, and SaaS. A deep understanding of various open source licensing models and their implications for SaaS products is essential, along with demonstrated experience advising on product compliance and related legal risks in a SaaS environment. Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills are necessary, as is familiarity with data privacy regulations like GDPR and CCPA. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are also required.
The Senior Lead Counsel, Product & IP will provide legal support throughout the entire product lifecycle, including development, launch, and ongoing management of SaaS offerings. Responsibilities include advising engineering, product management, and business teams on open source software use, licensing obligations, and intellectual property risks. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to facilitate engagement with the open source community, develop compliant open source use processes, and maintain open source policies. Conducting license compliance reviews and overseeing related audits, drafting and negotiating complex technology agreements, and developing internal policies and training programs are also key duties. Additionally, the counsel will collaborate to address data privacy, cybersecurity, and other regulatory requirements for SaaS products, and monitor evolving legal frameworks impacting SaaS and open source, advising on business implications.
