About Atticus

At Atticus, we believe that every American facing a crisis deserves access to legal and governmental assistance. Currently, 16 million Americans face such crises annually, yet most never receive the help they need. Atticus is dedicated to bridging this gap by making it easy for individuals to access life-changing aid.

In the past 6 years, Atticus has become the leading platform connecting people with disabilities to government benefits and assisting victims of accidents, misconduct, and violence in obtaining compensation from insurance. To date, we have helped thousands of individuals access over $4 billion in aid.

We have supported over 110,000 people in need, evidenced by more than 13,000 five-star reviews. We have also secured over $100 million in funding from prominent VC firms, including Fika, Forerunner, GV (Google Ventures), and True Ventures, with our Series C round closing in April 2025. Our team has grown significantly, from 89 to over 151 employees in the last year, with continued growth expected in 2025.

The Job

Atticus is a venture-backed B-Corporation founded and operated by lawyers. As a company in a highly regulated industry, we navigate a complex legal landscape, encompassing challenges common to fast-growing tech companies (data privacy, intellectual property, venture capital) as well as those unique to our business model (legal ethics, asset-backed financing, public benefits law).

We are seeking a lawyer to join as a founding member of our in-house legal team. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with our General Counsel, contributing to high-level strategy and gaining unparalleled insight into the company's decision-making processes. You will be deeply integrated across various teams, advising company leaders on both day-to-day legal matters and long-term strategy, while also helping to shape the culture, systems, and future of the Legal department at Atticus.

This is a unique chance to grow into a legal executive role at a rapidly expanding startup that views lawyers as essential business partners, not just risk managers. We offer a strong work-life balance alongside significant impact, with a goal to help over 250,000 Americans access life-changing benefits in the next two years.

We are looking for a sharp legal thinker with strong business acumen who is energized by complex challenges and a powerful mission.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience at a top law firm or as in-house counsel.
  • A resourceful team player capable of thriving in a dynamic startup environment, demonstrating a willingness to learn quickly and be hands-on.
  • An ambitious self-starter who excels in ambiguous situations and enjoys strategic challenges.
  • The ability to combine legal precision with practical, principled problem-solving.
  • A demonstrated commitment to social good and helping others.
  • Membership in good standing with at least one US state bar.

Bonus / Nice-to-Have:

  • Substantial experience with US privacy/data protection laws.
  • Experience managing a broad range of legal issues as in-house counsel at a high-growth technology company.
  • Experience with corporate governance.

Atticus is strongly committed to building a diverse team. We encourage applications from individuals from backgrounds underrepresented in the tech industry.

Salary and Benefits

This is a unique opportunity to join a startup with strong momentum, substantial funding, respected backers, significant growth, and a large, satisfied customer base, yet remains small enough for individual impact and cultural influence.

As a certified B Corporation tackling a critical social issue, our mission to assist those in need drives our work, and your contributions will directly impact many lives.

We offer competitive compensation, including equity, and generous benefits:

  • Medical and dental insurance with 100% of employee premiums covered.
  • 15 vacation days and approximately 19 paid holidays annually, including a two-week break at the end of the year.
  • Free membership to [Benefit details cut off]
