Requirements

Candidates must possess strong academic credentials and a demonstrated record of success as a lawyer, being a member of a local State Bar or eligible to register as Registered In-House Counsel. A minimum of 8 years of legal experience is required, with at least three years in an in-house role at a technology company. The role demands the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams, coupled with proven experience advising product and/or engineering teams on compliance with regulatory frameworks. Excellent organizational and project management skills, effective communication abilities, a capacity for quick learning, and a strong sense of initiative are essential. Experience negotiating customer contracts within a technology company and familiarity with global privacy frameworks are also required. Experience counseling product and/or engineering teams on compliance with regulatory frameworks is desired.

Responsibilities

The Senior Counsel will provide legal guidance to Twilio's R&D Organization, partnering with global Product and Engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle to ensure development aligns with strategic objectives and complies with applicable laws and regulations. Responsibilities include advising on potential legal risks during product development, ensuring product and service compliance with regulations, and guiding go-to-market strategies with necessary legal terms. The role also involves supporting commercial transactions by reviewing and negotiating agreements, assisting the Privacy team with risk identification and impact assessments, and reviewing marketing materials. Additionally, the Senior Counsel will collaborate with legal colleagues on regulatory developments, assist with governance for AI features and model development to ensure responsible use and compliance, and help develop and maintain legal processes and documentation for the product legal team.
