The Senior Electronics Engineer acts as a lead electrical designer, primarily responsible for developing schematics, production files and procedures, and test and evaluation criteria for PCB and other electrical systems. This role involves new development, as well as supporting production and QC. The engineer identifies process deficiencies, develops solutions, and mentors junior Electrical Engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficient with office software, computer-based productivity tools, and other relevant software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • PCB Circuit Design production experience, including schematic capture, component placement, libraries, layout, and simulation.
  • Hands-on experience with PCB/Electronic system bring-up, debugging, and functional verification.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with power, mechanical, and firmware during product development.
  • Experienced using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Motivated and result-driven team player with strong communication skills and a demonstrable sense of ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Design and revise electronics PCBs.
  • Evaluate electrical systems, products, and components, applying knowledge of electronics and materials.
  • Assure product quality by designing electrical testing methods and providing Q/C acceptance criteria and procedures.
  • Perform FA inspection on PCBs and other electronic modules.
  • Work within the existing firmware architecture to implement alterations, bug fixes, and performance enhancements, while documenting changes and maintaining version control.
  • Support production and QC as needed to ensure uninterrupted production cycles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in an office (Constant).
  • Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent).

This position requires access to information subject to compliance with the International Traffic Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and/or the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”). Applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under the ITAR and the EAR, or be approved for an export license by the governing agency. Any job offer requiring an export license approval is conditional upon AeroVironment’s ability to obtain the license in a timeframe consistent with business requirements. A “U.S. person” is defined by the ITAR.
