Candidates must possess a JD and be admitted to a relevant bar. A minimum of 7-10 years of legal experience is required, with at least 4 years in-house at B2C technology companies, or 5-6 years of highly relevant marketplace experience for a Counsel-level role. Prior experience in two-sided marketplaces or platforms, trust and safety, content moderation, or platform liability is strongly preferred. Experience advising on domestic and international privacy requirements like GDPR and CCPA, product legal matters, and supporting marketing initiatives is also necessary. Crisis management experience with platform incidents or regulatory matters, along with demonstrated ability in independent judgment, balancing legal risk with business objectives, and cross-functional collaboration, are essential. Early career law firm experience in technology or transactional practice and international expansion experience are preferred qualifications.
The Senior Counsel will partner with product teams on feature launches and user experience legal requirements, and maintain/evolve terms of service, community standards, and other platform policies. Responsibilities include partnering with Trust & Safety to develop dispute resolution, content moderation, and incident response frameworks, and advising on platform liability issues and intermediary protections. The role involves navigating regulatory compliance across North America and the EU, including consumer protection, privacy, and lodging regulations, with occasional marketing compliance support. Additionally, the Senior Counsel will lead contract negotiations for technology partnerships, marketing vendor agreements, and emerging supplier marketplace relationships.
