Position Overview

Flock Safety is seeking a dynamic Public Relations Manager - Public Sector to join our Corporate Communications team. This role is crucial for shaping Flock Safety's narrative and building relationships within the public sector. You will be instrumental in showcasing our technology's impact on community safety by soliciting customer stories, drafting press releases, pitching stories to news outlets, supporting press conferences, and fostering strong relationships with reporters and public sector customers nationwide.

This is a fast-paced, high-energy position that demands a creative, problem-solving approach and the ability to manage a complex PR process. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional communication skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities effectively. You should be passionate about engaging with customers and reporters, advocating for Flock Safety's mission, and thriving in a constantly evolving environment. Success hinges on consistently securing high volumes of positive press coverage through tenacity and persistence, and efficiently responding to daily media inquiries.


Requirements

  • Experience: 6-8 years of public relations and communications experience, either with an agency or in-house. Internship experience may be applicable.
  • Media Relations: Direct experience dealing with reporters is required.
  • Public Sector Experience: Experience dealing with public sector employees (law enforcement, elected officials, or city/county employees) is preferable.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with familiarity in press release and media pitch writing styles. A solid understanding of the media landscape is essential.
  • Relationship Building: Ability to engage with, develop, and maintain relationships with external stakeholders. Comfort with cold calling customers or reporters to pitch stories and resilience in the face of rejection are key.
  • Organization & Time Management: Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to balance a pipeline of multiple projects in various stages of development weekly.
  • Self-Starter: A self-starter mentality with the ability to work independently and quickly in a fast-moving environment. You must meet deadlines, respond to requests promptly, and proactively accomplish assigned tasks.
  • Public Speaking: Public speaking skills are preferable.
  • Reporter Relationships: Prior relationships with reporters are a plus.

  • Solicit compelling stories from Flock Safety customers.
  • Draft and distribute press releases.
  • Pitch stories to relevant news outlets.
  • Support press conferences and media events.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with reporters.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with Flock Safety’s public sector customers across the country.
  • Respond quickly and efficiently to daily media questions and inquiries.
  • Secure a high volume of positive press coverage each week through proactive outreach and persistence.
