Requirements

  • Strategic, people-first leader who ensures designers own usability throughout the product lifecycle
  • Experience leading a team of senior designers across a broad and evolving product area
  • Ability to coach direct reports and align with management tripod peers to coach teams, modeling collaboration, strategic alignment, and outcome-driven design
  • Accountability for design quality and usability of shipped solutions, with ability to bring clarity and focus through ambiguity as the organization scales
  • Deep partnership with Product Management and Engineering leadership to cultivate healthy tripods and uphold usability across discovery, delivery, and iteration
  • Autonomy in operations, deep domain expertise, and contribution to strategic leadership across the broader design organization

Responsibilities

  • Act as the design lead within your tripod, partnering closely with Product Management and Engineering to guide product discovery, usability standards, and customer learning
  • Take ownership of large, ambiguous features or product areas, contributing across multiple surfaces to drive clarity and cohesion
  • Influence direction through design storytelling, research synthesis, and clear product thinking
  • Anticipate edge cases and usability risks early; drive evidence-led iteration across EA, beta, and GA
  • Uplevel team members through mentorship, feedback, and contributions to team rituals and process improvement
  • Raise the bar for usability within a product area, contributing new patterns to the design system for team-wide efficiency
  • Lead usability across your tripod by framing problems, surfacing assumptions, and co-creating solutions informed by data and user insights
  • Set and uphold the usability bar from early access to GA, ensuring iterative work is trustworthy, complete, and customer-ready
  • Balance speed and quality, articulate tradeoffs, and validate design decisions with lightweight testing
  • Apply deep product knowledge and business context to make strategic design decisions prioritizing user success
  • Participate in customer discovery sessions and serve as the expert on customer needs within an area
  • Deliver detailed design specs with full states and interactions, leveraging and contributing to the design system
  • Turn complexity into simplicity by designing intuitive flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes
  • Track design decisions and rationale; share proactively to build shared understanding across teams
  • Identify, test, and scale new methods, tools, or workflows to improve design and development efficiency
  • Lead Design QA in collaboration with Engineering and QA partners, ensuring usability, consistency, and polish before launch
  • Serve as a trusted partner in your product tripod, owning usability and shaping roadmap priorities, scope decisions, and product bets
  • Own the prioritization and scoping of design initiatives spanning multiple projects, ensuring alignment and visibility
  • Facilitate alignment across disciplines by making problems visible, decisions clear, and evidence central
