Senior Manager of HR Programs

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Manager of HR Programs to partner with the Chief People Officer in scaling KoBold's global workforce. This role is crucial for establishing sophisticated processes, programs, and tooling that enhance efficiency without introducing bureaucracy, while thoughtfully considering the diverse cultural underpinnings and job responsibilities of our employees. The ideal candidate will be energized by ambiguous problem spaces and the challenge of building solutions that preserve KoBold's ethos.

About KoBold

The mining industry faces significant challenges in discovering new ore deposits, requiring substantially more capital than in previous decades due to the depletion of easily accessible resources. The industry has also under-invested in new exploration technology, relying on outdated manual techniques despite increasing demand for critical metals like copper and lithium.

KoBold addresses these challenges by building and deploying AI models for mineral exploration, complemented by novel sensors. Since its founding, KoBold has become the largest independent mineral exploration company and exploration technology developer. Our data scientists, software engineers, and exploration geologists collaborate to lead exploration programs.

KoBold has achieved its first discovery with significantly less capital than the industry average, identifying one of the best copper deposits ever discovered. This asset, characterized by high copper concentration, is expected to generate substantial revenue for decades. KoBold manages a portfolio of over 60 additional projects with discovery potential.

KoBold is a privately held company backed by prominent investors including T. Rowe Price, Canada Pension Plan Investments, Andreessen Horowitz, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BOND Capital, Standard Investments, Equinor, BHP, and Mitsubishi.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and, at times, lead the evolution of core People programs such as compensation, performance management, and onboarding.
  • Support organizational change initiatives by designing people-centered communication and transition strategies.
  • Reduce manual work within the HR function.
  • Increase data-derived insights and actionable plans.
  • Improve the employee experience and foster a culture of continuous learning.
  • Partner with leaders to address talent and management-related issues.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance team effectiveness in collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Improve cohesion across a geographically dispersed organization.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in People Operations, People Programs, or HRBP roles, preferably within tech or science-based industries.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, demonstrating superior analytical and data manipulation skills.
  • Exceptional project management and communication capabilities.
  • A deep curiosity and a proactive approach to understanding the science, business, and collaborative dynamics at KoBold.
  • Experience navigating the complexities of scaling a global workforce.
  • Proven ability to build and implement sophisticated HR processes and programs.

KoBold Metals

AI-driven mineral exploration for clean energy

About KoBold Metals

KoBold Metals focuses on discovering new deposits of essential minerals like lithium, cobalt, copper, and nickel, which are crucial for clean energy technologies. The company employs artificial intelligence to enhance the mineral exploration process, making it more efficient and predictable. Their proprietary AI tool utilizes a concept known as Efficacy of Information (EOI) to guide data collection during exploration, helping to reduce uncertainty. KoBold invests over $60 million annually in more than 60 projects across three continents, leading extensive research and development efforts in the field. Unlike traditional exploration methods, KoBold aggregates comprehensive data about the Earth's crust's physics and chemistry, allowing for a more scientific approach to mineral discovery. The company's goal is to locate and sell mineral deposits to clean energy companies, providing them with the necessary resources while maintaining a competitive advantage in the market.
