Requirements

Technical expertise in pension schemes, including continuous assessment of regulatory requirements and pensions tax regulations
Experience acting as Secretary to a Trustee Board, supporting Chairman and delivering Board objectives
Knowledge of UK and Ireland pension schemes (DB and DC, including automatic enrolment)
Ability to manage governance, Trustee meetings (preparing, running, minuting), and compliance with legislation, regulations, and Regulator guidance
Expertise in integrated risk management, including review of Trustee Risk Register
Experience in budgetary management exceeding £2 million annually, including negotiations
Line management experience, including directing staff resourcing, training, development, and managing one direct report
Ability to manage third-party administrators and professional advisors, monitoring SLAs and resolving member issues
Partnership experience with HR, Payroll, and US parent company on benefit design and administration

Responsibilities

Lead the in-house Pensions Team, providing support to Company Management, Trustee Directors, and active members across schemes, sites, and divisions, including transitions from acquisitions/divestments and retirement options
Actively support UK entity and Trustee relationship with US parent company
Act as Secretary to the Trustee of the Abbott Laboratories Pension Fund (1966), supporting Chairman in decisive action
Serve as technical expert for Trustee Board and Company on regulatory and tax implications
Lead, manage, and direct pension administration and communication for Abbott Laboratories Pension Fund (1966), Abbott Retirement Saver (2015), including automatic enrolment, and support for Irish schemes
Manage governance, support, and delivery for Trustee Board, including preparing, running, and minuting meetings
Lead representation with professional advisors, evaluate technical advice, monitor administration performance against SLAs, and resolve member issues
Lead production of member communications, ensuring high quality, oversight of scheme website, and optimization
Ensure compliance, deliver Trustee training, maintain internal financial controls and procedures
Ensure preparation, audit, and sign-off of Trustee’s Annual Report and Accounts within statutory deadlines
Lead Trustee Board in Integrated Risk Management and regular Risk Register reviews
Partner with HR and Payroll on benefit design and administration
Direct pensions office staff activities, ensuring resourcing, training, development, and manage third-party administrators/providers
Coordinate and evaluate technical analysis for triennial actuarial valuations and funding issues
Manage Trustee expenditure budget exceeding £2 million annually and conduct budgetary negotiations
Oversee application of Trustee Internal Dispute Resolution procedure for member complaints
