Role Expectations

As a Lead Product Designer, you will combine your craft expertise and leadership skills with an understanding of our customers and the business to co-create innovative solutions to complex problems and influence product strategy.

Key Competencies:

  • Product Design Expertise: Demonstrate high skill in product design, utilizing a variety of interaction, visual, and service design skills. Collaborate with cross-functional partners to inform the use of appropriate tools, platforms, frameworks, and design systems. Create artifacts such as journey maps, blueprints, high-fidelity designs, and prototypes.
  • Leadership: Lead design projects, directing and delegating work for junior team members. Mentor and contribute to the maturation of the overall product design practice at Capital One.
  • Human-Centered: Effectively navigate the needs of partners and stakeholders. Leverage critical-thinking skills that incorporate data, research insights, scalability, and technical constraints, ensuring a focus on customer-centered solutions and inclusive design.
  • Business-Focused: Demonstrate proficiency with products and processes. Apply relevant insights on customers, competitors, and broader market trends to business challenges, shaping a shared point of view for your team, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving: Possess a solid understanding of technology, data capabilities, and emerging technologies. Utilize this knowledge to inform your work and help your cross-functional team move faster, navigating technical limitations to deliver impactful solutions.
  • Collaboration: Leverage a rich network of partnerships across lines of business and the organization to foster collaboration and share solutions. Incorporate cross-functional perspectives to bridge information gaps.
  • Communication: Present work across various levels and job functions using a human-centered approach. Integrate design frameworks, data, and research insights to articulate a compelling point of view that influences strategic decision-making and direction at senior levels.

Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 6 years of experience in a Product Design role.
  • At least 6 years of experience in design and prototyping tools such as Figma.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience working with and contributing to an established design system.
  • 4+ years of experience collaborating with product, tech, and business partners.
  • 2+ years of experience leading design projects or teams.
  • 2+ years of experience working in heavily regulated, data-heavy problem spaces.
