The Software Engineering Manager role is responsible for leading and managing a team of software engineers, including front-end, back-end, and full-stack engineers. The primary focus of this role will be on developing the people and processes that contribute to the timely delivery of innovative, secure, and high-quality solutions. This role will partner with DevSecOps and Software Architecture teams within MPC.

This is a hands-on management position, ensuring the successful design, development, testing, and maintenance of high-quality solutions to support the MPC business. To ensure success, you should have extensive experience in software engineering within dynamic environments with emerging technologies, coupled with the ability to solve complex business problems using technology. You should also develop a deep understanding of how our products are built and contribute technically to solutions. Furthermore, fostering strong working relationships with various Product Leaders and Discipline Leaders across the organization is crucial for optimal business outcomes.

The Software Engineering Manager will lead, guide, and set direction for the software engineering team. This includes responsibility for employee development, performance reviews, pay reviews, and staffing decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build a best-in-class software engineering team that delivers excellent work products using agile delivery methodology.
  • Build a technology stack that enables the quick turnaround of software products.
  • Build and drive a software engineering team capable of breaking down complex problems into smaller, simpler building blocks, overcoming challenges, and delivering results.
  • Establish an Engineering roadmap in alignment with overarching Commercial IT and MPC objectives.
  • Responsible for hiring, retaining, and growing a high-performing team of software engineers.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, providing clear and concise updates on software delivery, risks, and achievements.
  • Manage daily operations of the team, providing guidance, mentorship, and driving a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee recruitment, development, retention, and performance to build strong talent.
  • Plan and lead low- to medium-complexity IT projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
  • Ensure the availability, reliability, and security of technology systems.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and internal groups to identify needs, deliver effective solutions, and support business objectives.
  • Maintain visibility and support of operations within MPC, ensuring high availability, scalability, and performance.
  • Maintain visibility and metrics to track adoption and software engineering maturity practices across the MPC IT landscape.
  • Maintain a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement, leading the team through periods of change and transformation.
  • Assist in the development and management of the department budget, tracking expenses, and ensuring resources are allocated effectively to meet business requirements.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technology trends, industry advancements, and regulatory changes, and make recommendations for adopting new technologies to improve operational efficiency.
