Requirements

The Head of Operational Risk should have extensive experience in leading and owning an Operational Risk Management (ORM) function, with a strong understanding of operational resilience, regulatory compliance, and fostering a risk-aware culture. Expertise in designing and implementing ORM programs, frameworks, policies, and methodologies is essential. The role requires accountability for change governance and embedding operational risk considerations into all change initiatives, including product launches, system implementations, and process transformations. A thought leadership approach, leveraging AI and technology to enhance efficiency, improve decision-making, and influence business practices, is also a key requirement. Experience with third-party/vendor risk frameworks is necessary.

Responsibilities

The Head of Operational Risk will lead and own Deel’s ORM function, ensuring operational resilience, regulatory compliance, and a proactive risk-aware culture. Responsibilities include full oversight, governance, and continuous improvement of all ORM-related frameworks, policies, procedures, and methodologies. This involves designing and implementing ORM programs, and having end-to-end accountability for change governance to embed operational risk considerations into all change initiatives. The role involves serving as a thought leader and strategic advisor to the CRO and executive leadership on emerging operational risk trends and best practices. Championing the use of AI, automation, and advanced analytics to streamline risk processes, promoting technology-enabled approaches, and supporting data-driven decision-making are key duties. Overseeing change governance processes to ensure operational risk is consistently considered and mitigated during business transformation, system upgrades, and product rollouts is also required. Developing, tracking, and analyzing Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), thresholds, breach protocols, and remediation timelines across the business, and producing real-time, AI-enhanced dashboards and risk reports for senior leadership and the board are also part of the role. Owning the third-party/vendor risk framework and embedding it is also a responsibility.
