The Engineer III Field Service Engineer is responsible for providing comprehensive field service support to customers, including installation, repair, preventative maintenance, and instrument qualification. This role requires a customer-focused approach and a commitment to representing Thermo Fisher Scientific positively.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, sciences, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Service Engineer, particularly with Inorganic Mass Spectrometry instrumentation.
  • Instrumentation Knowledge: Proficiency with IOMS, High-Resolution MA, GIRMS, or DFS instrumentation is strongly preferred.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish good customer rapport are essential.
  • Software Proficiency: Proficiency with customer management software for tracking service calls, managing parts inventories, and completing job tasks.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 40 lbs, stand for long periods, and willingness to work overtime.
  • Travel: Must be available for daily travel and up to 80% overnight travel.
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license required.
  • Background Check: Must be able to successfully pass federal background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Installation: Perform on-site installation of IOMS Spectroscopy instrumentation.
  • Repair: Provide repair services for malfunctioning instrumentation.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Conduct preventative maintenance on instruments.
  • Qualification: Perform instrument qualification procedures.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Work in conjunction with Professional Services and outsourcing functions to manage customer relationships.
  • Problem Resolution: Analyze customer reports, inspect equipment, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Technical Analysis: Analyze instrument-generated reports to identify and recommend factory modifications for preventing recurring issues.
  • Communication: Serve as a communication link between the customer and the company.
  • Training: Develop and conduct training on equipment operation and demonstrate skills to customers and team members.
  • Certification: Demonstrate progression in training and certification for advanced products.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
