The role also demands ownership of cross-functional platform surfaces like the dashboard, onboarding flows, and internal APIs, ensuring cohesive user and developer experiences. Setting architectural direction for new products, including Designer APIs and billing platforms, while balancing scalability with product velocity, is a key requirement. Strong partnerships with product and engineering managers, along with mentoring and supporting emerging leaders, are also necessary. Maintaining high velocity and execution quality while investing in the long-term health and stability of the core platform is expected.

Responsibilities

The Director of Engineering will provide hands-on technical leadership by staying close to the codebase and deeply understanding system architecture, contributing meaningfully to technical discussions and design reviews. They will lead engineering initiatives across core growth and extensibility surfaces, including AI Site Builder, pricing infrastructure, the app ecosystem, freelancers and agencies workflows, and the API platform. Responsibilities include driving the execution and delivery of key growth levers, collaborating with Product to enhance monetization and reduce churn, and owning cross-functional platform surfaces for cohesive user and developer experiences. Additionally, they will set architectural direction for new products, foster strong partnerships with product and engineering managers, mentor emerging leaders, and maintain high velocity and execution quality while ensuring platform health and stability.
