Head of Engineering
LiveFlowFull Time
Expert & Leadership (9+ years)
Candidates should possess at least 10 years of software engineering experience, with a minimum of 5 years in senior leadership roles such as VP or Director. A proven track record in building and scaling complex distributed systems, including architecture, execution, and operations, is essential. Experience leading cross-functional teams across backend, platform, and infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on shipping products, is required. Deep familiarity with cloud-native systems (preferably GCP), Go, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines is necessary. Experience integrating AI/ML into product features or infrastructure, particularly in applied contexts like detection logic or automation workflows, is highly desirable. A strong understanding of applying AI tools to modern software development, including internal copilots and code quality checks, is also required. Demonstrated ability to set and enforce high standards in hiring, code quality, technical design, and delivery, along with strong communication and planning skills, is crucial.
The VP of Engineering will drive execution across core platform, infrastructure, detection pipelines, artifact ingestion, and customer integrations. They will translate product direction and threat research into system architecture, engineering plans, and shipped software, balancing speed with quality and prioritizing ruthlessly for predictable delivery. This role involves building a high-performance engineering organization, hiring experienced engineers who thrive with autonomy, and creating a culture of ownership, curiosity, and continuous improvement. The VP will collaborate closely with the CTO to align technical vision with company strategy, partner with Threat Research to develop capabilities, and work with Sales Engineering and Customer Success to ensure the development of impactful solutions. They will also represent engineering in executive discussions and drive cross-team alignment. Furthermore, the VP will define and evolve the system architecture to support petabyte-scale data and real-time analysis, while championing engineering quality through secure-by-default design, a strong review culture, automated testing, and reliable releases.
Automated threat detection and response solutions
Stairwell offers automated threat detection and response solutions through its cloud-based platform, which uses binary-level analysis to identify threats. The platform allows businesses to create queries and utilize over 4,200 YARA rules to detect patterns in their files, ensuring effective threat hunting. Unlike competitors, Stairwell focuses on empowering security teams by providing continuous analysis without impacting system performance, thus reducing investigation costs and time. The company's goal is to enhance organizational security visibility and confidence, making expensive threat assessments unnecessary.
