Requirements

Candidates should have proven experience in customs operations and compliance, preferably within a multinational or regulated industry, and strong knowledge of UK Customs regulations and international trade laws. Leadership experience with a track record of developing high-performing teams is required. Proficiency in customs software and ERP systems like SAP, SAGE, or AS400 is desired, along with excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills. A bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred, though equivalent experience is valued. Relevant certifications such as Certified Customs Specialist are a plus.

Responsibilities

The Customs Compliance Assistant Manager will lead UK Customs operations, overseeing daily activities across all UK affiliates to ensure full compliance with HMRC and global trade regulations. This role involves managing and mentoring a team of four customs professionals, identifying and implementing improvements to streamline import/export operations, and assessing and mitigating customs and trade compliance risks. The Assistant Manager will collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, customs authorities, logistics providers, and brokers, and will design and deliver customs compliance training across UK affiliates. Responsibilities also include providing senior leadership with detailed reports on compliance, performance, and operational metrics, supporting product classification, origin reviews, and special customs procedures, and overseeing broker performance through SLA and KPI reviews.
