Requirements

Candidates should have over 8 years of communications experience, preferably in health-tech or healthcare, with a blend of in-house and agency experience. A strong understanding of employer benefits, broker/consultant dynamics, payer/provider integrations, and basic policy/regulatory guardrails is highly preferred. Proven ability to write and edit quickly in plain language, develop clear stories with sources, and secure recent placements in relevant trades and at least one tier-1 feature is required. Experience managing agencies to achieve specific outcomes and a track record of escalating or replacing underperforming agencies when necessary are also essential.

Responsibilities

The VP of Communications will build and manage Garner's communications program, driving awareness and owning the company's narrative in the market. This includes running the newsroom and corporate calendar, leading media relations across various press sectors, and developing a co-announcement program with partners. The role involves owning the internal and external speaking bench, coaching spokespeople, and conducting media training. Responsibilities also include establishing standards, workflows, and KPIs for communications impact, maintaining messaging hygiene with Legal/Clinical teams, and managing crisis communications plans. Additionally, the VP will select, brief, and manage external agencies to meet defined outputs and deadlines.
