Requirements

  • Knowledgeable and experienced in TechOps, with a mix of technical depth and sound judgment
  • Ability to lead with clarity, build with empathy, and balance technical curiosity with a down-to-earth mindset
  • Experience spotting improvements, helping others grow, and implementing sustainable solutions
  • Wide breadth of knowledge and experience across all areas of IT, with deep understanding in many areas
  • Acknowledged expert among peers in Identity and Access Management (IAM)
  • Passion for hacking, building, scripting, identity management, device management, and scalable tooling
  • Interest and/or experience in related areas like software engineering, security, platform architecture, UI/UX design
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and tackling varying challenges daily
  • Cloud-first approach and experience (no on-prem AD)
  • Background in roles such as IAM Engineer, Tech Lead, Lead/Senior Support Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer, Systems Architect, Systems Designer, Senior Systems Engineer, Workplace Technology Architect, or Solutions Architect

Responsibilities

  • Make high-level strategic and architectural technical decisions around the business
  • Spend time on day-to-day 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line support to understand user problems and decision impacts
  • Define what good looks like for a small and lean TechOps team
  • Tackle toughest technical issues as the company scales to tens of thousands of people
  • Make wide-scale strategic technical decisions across the whole Octopus Energy Group, globally
  • Design, build, and continually improve processes, automations, and systems to enhance user experience, remove inefficiencies, enable quick scaling, and keep the team small
  • Mentor the wider TechOps team, providing support and guidance for technical projects (no direct people management)
  • Support the team in providing delightful day-to-day technical support to all areas of the business
