Tech Lead Manager, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)

Position Overview

Oura is seeking a Tech Lead Manager to join and lead our new Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Squad in the US. This role is crucial for establishing and managing our SRE presence in the US, focusing on the governance, scalability, and observability of Oura's AWS infrastructure. A key aspect of this position involves supporting our Commercial team in meeting the specific data residency and compliance needs of Oura's Enterprise customers.

Our platform combines the power of the Oura Ring and app with robust backend services and integrations, providing a data-rich and secure experience. The APIs powering Oura's applications, services, and machine learning components rely on the reliability and scalability of our Cloud platform for growth.

While this is a remote role, Oura has offices in San Francisco and San Diego for those who prefer hybrid or in-office settings. Oura employees in other major cities may also gather informally at local co-working locations.

Responsibilities

• Team Leadership & Management:
  • Handle line management duties for engineers within the SRE squad responsible for our AWS-based cloud platform.
  • Coach and support engineers in their career development through regular 1-on-1s.
  • Help engineers overcome blockers and challenges.
  • Create hiring plans and participate in recruitment to attract and retain top talent globally.
• Operational Excellence:
  • Enable company goals by reliably and efficiently innovating, building, and operating the cloud platform.
  • Promote engineering excellence, establish key metrics, and drive continuous operational improvements.
  • Provide leadership for team initiatives, coordinating work, facilitating stakeholder discussions, and driving problem-solving.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and competence for successful project outcomes.
• Customer & Stakeholder Support:
  • Support the Commercial team in servicing Enterprise customers with specific needs related to data residency and compliance status.
• Collaboration & Best Practices:
  • Work with other engineering leaders to promote best practices and a culture of continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Collaborate with other engineering managers to refine team leadership, clarify vision and goals, and build a fantastic work environment.
• Platform Development:
  • Design for scale and growth, preparing for user demand peaks, and building fault-tolerant and secure systems.
  • Experience designing and building data-intensive distributed systems in production environments, applying proper architectural patterns.

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend development experience.
• 2+ years of experience managing or leading infrastructure-focused teams.
• Passion for building inclusive, high-performing teams, with a proven track record of mentoring engineers and supporting career growth.
• Excellent communication and decision-making skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and prioritize effectively in a dynamic, geographically distributed environment.
• A pragmatic, can-do attitude and a delivery-focused mindset, comfortable handling trade-offs between short-term goals and long-term tech debt.
• Strong experience running, monitoring, and debugging production systems at scale on AWS.
• Experience from Healthcare or Government industries and supporting large enterprises is a plus.
