Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong fundamentals in core naval architecture principles, including ship design, stability, structures, propulsion, and hydrodynamics
  • Proficiency with CAD software (e.g., Rhino, AutoCAD, Nx) and simulation tools (e.g., Orca3D, Star CCM+, GHS, equivalent)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in client-facing roles
  • Experience supporting and leading proposal efforts on SOW development and technical feasibility
  • Experience in technical leadership roles such as ship design manager
  • Ability to walk, climb, or stand for extended periods during shipyard or onboard inspections
  • Capable of climbing ladders or stairs and accessing confined or elevated spaces (e.g., tanks, engine rooms)
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25–30 lbs (e.g., plans, laptops, small equipment)
  • Good visual acuity (corrected or uncorrected) to inspect structural elements, read blueprints, or use CAD software
  • Capable of wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, and hearing protection, when required
  • Comfortable working in varied environments, including onboard vessels, dry docks, or outdoor marine settings, potentially in varying weather conditions
  • May require occasional domestic or international travel, which may include shipboard or industrial environments

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, development, and analysis of vessel hull forms, arrangements, structures, and mechanical systems for ASVs
  • Conduct hydrodynamic and stability calculations, including resistance, propulsion, seakeeping, and maneuvering simulations
  • Collaborate with other engineers to perform CAD modeling, structural design, and weight management for vessel optimization
  • Support the integration of autonomous navigation and control systems into vessel designs
  • Participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions for new and existing vessel concepts
  • Research and stay updated on new developments in naval architecture, autonomous technology, and defense requirements
  • Support documentation, technical writing, and preparation of reports for internal use and client presentations
  • Interface with contracts and proposal teams as technical subject matter expert
  • Represent the technical team at customer meetings and trade shows
