Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Senior Software Engineering Manager to lead our innovative EMEA Cloud Deployment Platform team in Poland. This is a unique opportunity to be the first Senior Software Engineering Manager hired in Poland, shaping the future of our engineering presence in the region and leading a critical component of Confluent Cloud.

About the Role

As the leader of the EMEA Cloud Deployment Platform team, you will guide a talented group of 6 engineers, including two Staff engineers. Your team is responsible for building and maintaining a scalable, efficient, and user-friendly platform that powers the release and deployment of Confluent Cloud. This platform, built with Golang and native Kubernetes operator patterns, orchestrates deployments across over 4,000 Kubernetes clusters across three cloud providers. You will oversee thousands of deployments, ensuring safety and efficiency. This role requires a strong technical mindset for guiding architectural decisions and fostering technical discussions, though it is not hands-on coding.

This is an exceptional opportunity to not only lead a mission-critical engineering team but also to be a key player in growing Confluent's investment in Poland as a major EMEA engineering hub. You will report directly to the EMEA Site Lead, offering significant growth and responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and maintenance of Confluent's deployment platform, a strategic investment for the coming years.
• Ensure the platform's scalability, efficiency, and user-friendliness for all stakeholders.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to integrate the deployment platform with various systems and processes.
• Drive the mission and vision of the deployment platform team with enthusiasm and clarity.
• Manage the team's sprint board and long-term strategic plans to align with company goals.
• Facilitate engaging team meetings to promote effective communication and collaboration.
• Monitor team progress towards goals and provide insightful reports on achievements.
• Act as a key leader in anchoring the growth of Confluent's engineering function in Poland.

Requirements

• A minimum of 10+ years in software development.
• At least 3+ years in a management capacity.
• Technical expertise in large-scale systems engineering or distributed systems.
• Exceptional problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Proven ability to influence and communicate effectively across all levels, from team members to upper management.
• Experience in hiring, motivating engineers, coaching/mentoring, and managing performance with a focus on growth.
• A proven track record of delivering features on time and effectively prioritizing tasks.
• BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience; an advanced degree is a plus.
