We are seeking a visionary and execution-focused Director of Software Development Engineering to lead our full-stack engineering teams. This role is crucial in building the technology that defines Alto's patient experience and drives significant change within the healthcare industry. You will collaborate closely with Product, Design, Data, and Operations to create systems that simplify care, reduce friction, and empower patients with clarity and confidence regarding their medications. Responsibilities

• Lead and Grow Engineering Teams: Guide and develop multiple engineering teams responsible for building the core products that power Alto's operations.
• Mentor Engineers: Foster the professional growth of talented engineers, enabling them to achieve their best work and elevating the standard of technical excellence.
• Drive Innovation: Translate ambitious product ideas into innovative and scalable solutions in close collaboration with Product, Design, Data, Business Development, and Operations.
• Shape Architecture & Infrastructure: Define and refine the architecture and infrastructure to ensure our systems are fast, reliable, and prepared for future growth.
• Champion Best Practices: Promote engineering best practices and cultivate a culture of curiosity, creativity, and continuous improvement.
• Strategic Alignment: Partner with senior leadership to align engineering efforts with business objectives and the company's overarching strategy. Contribute to defining the long-term vision for our tech stack, team structure, and operational methodologies.
• Foster Culture: Create an environment that emphasizes collaboration, ownership, and accountability.
• Data-Driven Decisions: Utilize data to monitor progress, identify impediments, and celebrate successes.
• Team Building: Actively participate in hiring and retaining an inclusive, high-performing engineering team that reflects the diversity of our patients and communities.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. An advanced degree is preferred.
• 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with a specialization in building scalable, loosely coupled services and low-latency data stores.
• Proven leadership experience with at least 10 years managing and scaling engineering teams, including experience managing managers and leading large, cross-functional teams.
• Extensive experience designing and building software using modern development frameworks, with a strong grasp of object-oriented programming principles. You should advocate for reusable components, clean abstractions, and maintainable code, guiding your teams similarly. You are adept at evaluating system design trade-offs and architecting for flexibility, performance, and scale.
• Possess a strategic mindset coupled with a bias for action; comfortable operating at both a detailed and high-level strategic capacity.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, high-growth technology or tech-enabled company.
• A demonstrable passion for healthcare technology and a commitment to improving patient outcomes.

Preferred Qualifications:

• A genuine passion for healthcare and a strong desire to build technology that positively impacts people's lives.
• Experience deploying AI/ML models into production environments and a curiosity for applying emerging technologies to real-world challenges.
• Relevant experience in healthcare technology or the pharmacy sector.
