Cribl is a serious company that doesn’t take itself too seriously, seeking collaborative, curious, and motivated team members who are passionate about putting customers first. As a remote-first company, Cribl empowers its employees to do their best work from anywhere. Cribl is the data engine for IT and Security, trusted by major companies to solve pressing data needs.

This role is for an Engineering Manager to lead and grow the team responsible for Cribl Lake, a cloud-native data lake for long-term, full-fidelity observability data storage. Cribl Lake allows customers to ingest, store, and query data in open formats like JSON and Parquet without vendor lock-in or expensive hot storage. It integrates seamlessly with the Cribl suite, enabling efficient data organization, in-place search, and replay for analysis, compliance, and incident response.

As the Engineering Manager for Lake, you will lead a remote-first, cross-functional team building and scaling the core platform, including ingestion, schema management, storage organization, and search enablement. You will influence Cribl’s long-term data strategy and collaborate across teams for a cohesive, high-performance customer experience.

Responsibilities

  • Build, lead, and support a diverse and inclusive engineering team that values code quality, ownership, and customer outcomes.
  • Partner with product management and engineering leadership to define and deliver the roadmap for Cribl Lake.
  • Guide the team in designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining scalable features across the Lake platform, focusing on performance and reliability.
  • Ensure engineering best practices are followed and team members are growing in alignment with Cribl’s career ladder.
  • Drive cross-team collaboration, particularly with Cribl Search, Stream, and internal infrastructure teams, to build cohesive and integrated experiences.
  • Foster a strong DevOps culture with an emphasis on observability, operational readiness, and proactive incident prevention.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of engineering management experience, with a proven track record of hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers in distributed systems environments.
  • Expertise in cloud-native storage systems, object storage (e.g., S3), file formats like Parquet or JSON, or high-throughput ingestion architectures.
  • Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments and balance delivery with quality and technical debt management.
  • Excellent communication skills for articulating complex technical concepts and driving cross-functional alignment.
  • Professional experience with Go, Node.js, or similar technologies, or a demonstrated ability to lead in unfamiliar technical stacks.
  • Background in distributed systems, backend infrastructure at scale, and operational excellence.
