Requirements

Candidates should have 5+ years of experience in infrastructure, network engineering, or hosting environments, with expertise in virtual networking (public/private cloud), SDN, and VXLAN/EVPN. Strong knowledge of BGP, L2/L3 routing, Linux, and Kubernetes networking is required, along with network automation and observability experience. Proficiency in Go or Rust is essential, and familiarity with PHP and SQL is a plus. Bonus experience includes high-performance networking hardware, legacy system modernization, network security or multi-tenant firewall experience, and a cloud provider or hyperscaler background.

Responsibilities

The Senior Engineer will architect and lead the evolution of Vultr's global cloud networking platform, driving the design and implementation of scalable, reliable, and secure network services including VPC, edge connectivity, and security features. Responsibilities include working on technical designs for next-gen cloud networking (VPC, security groups, gateways, routing domains), driving implementation of control/data plane features and network orchestration, and managing services such as BGP peering, tenant isolation, and network policy enforcement. The role also involves prototyping and validating new capabilities at scale, supporting production systems and incident response, and extending Vultr’s control plane to integrate networking features.
