Requirements

  • 7+ years experience planning, executing, and analyzing marketing automation campaigns, with a strong focus on email and newsletter marketing
  • Superior project management and communication skills with the technical skills to translate stakeholder and business needs into actionable items
  • Proven experience leading an email/CRM management function
  • Extensive experience working with CRM platforms (Iterable, Braze, Sailthru, etc.)
  • Demonstrated understanding of email marketing best practices and technical infrastructure, including deliverability, hygiene and IP health as well as compliance laws such as CAN-SPAM
  • Strong analytical skills; able to create data-driven marketing strategies and campaigns across email and newsletter touchpoints
  • Experience with A/B and multivariate testing, including post-campaign analysis
  • Proficient with drag-and-drop email builders

Responsibilities

  • Lead CRM strategy and execution for key sports moments and product initiatives, partnering cross-functionally to plan and deliver campaigns across email, newsletters, and in-app surfaces
  • Work closely with editorial to plan around major sports moments, staying attuned to the global sports calendar to identify high-impact opportunities to drive feature adoption, content engagement, and habit formation
  • Partner with product marketing to support feature launches and ongoing education efforts, identifying key moments in the user lifecycle to drive awareness, engagement, and adoption
  • Drive continuous improvement of business and channel-specific KPIs, maintaining a clear optimization plan and documenting best practices
  • Identify opportunities to integrate product launches and sports moments into lifecycle programs through automation, personalization, segmentation, and testing roadmaps (A/B, multivariate), while developing benchmarks and sharing regular performance insights
  • Communicate proactively and clearly with business leaders and stakeholders about strategy, execution, and performance tracking to plan
  • Help drive excellence by being an expert and trusted advisor in the email and newsletter space, continuously staying on top of new advancements and trends in the industry to help drive innovation
  • Support execution of sponsored and partnership campaigns in newsletters and email, ensuring alignment with editorial and commercial requirements
  • Work alongside analytics team to build reporting dashboards, plan and analyze optimization tests and identify new user insights to leverage future campaigns
  • Drive data-driven projects with product, engineering, and analytics to strengthen CRM’s ability to target users through automated and triggered touch points
  • Collaborate with Analytics, Product, Marketing, Design, Data Science and Engineering on email strategy, execution and testing as well as new omni-channel technical integrations
  • Assist in the The Athletic’s email service provider relationship, including ensuring our monthly SLAs are monitored and identifying new areas of opportunity
