Candidates must possess a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from a top-tier accredited law school and be admitted to practice law in the US jurisdiction where they reside, with a minimum of 5 years of experience handling broad commercial transactions, including in-house experience at a technology company or within financial services or cryptocurrency, and familiarity with crypto protocol governance is a plus. Strong knowledge of financial services laws, crypto/blockchain regulations, payments regulations, consumer protection rules, and data privacy regulations, such as GDPR and CCPA, is required, along with familiarity with open payment networks and Layer 2 blockchain technologies like the Lightning Network.
The Senior Counsel will serve as a legal advisor to product teams for the global rollout of the UMA protocol and Spark networks, providing practical forward-thinking counsel throughout product development; draft and negotiate complex contractual arrangements with multiple stakeholders for the networks; draft and negotiate product-related agreements, terms of service, disclosures, and foundational documents; advise the company on data privacy matters in coordination with compliance and security teams; negotiate and draft contracts with Lightspark vendors; draft and review nondisclosure agreements and other commercial agreements, and drive and manage cross-functional projects.
