Why Mozilla?

Mozilla Corporation is a non-profit-backed technology company that has shaped the internet for the better over the last 25 years. We make pioneering brands like Firefox, the privacy-minded web browser. With over 225 million people globally using our products monthly, we are shaping the next 25 years of technology and helping to reclaim an internet built for people, not companies. Our work spans diverse areas including AI, social media, and security, all while staying true to our core mission – to make the internet better for people.

The Mozilla Corporation is wholly owned by the non-profit 501(c) Mozilla Foundation. This unique structure means we are not beholden to shareholders, but rather to our mission. Alongside thousands of volunteer contributors worldwide, Mozillians design, build, and distribute open-source software that empowers people to enjoy the internet on their own terms.

About this team and role:

Mozilla is seeking a strategic, creative, and self-directed Senior Communications Manager to shape and amplify the story of our privacy-preserving advertising products and the mission behind them. In this high-impact and collaborative role, you’ll be a vital voice for our growing Ads and Anonym teams. You will build compelling communications strategies and narratives, manage reputational risk, and help define Mozilla’s distinct position in the advertising and tech ecosystems.

As a key member of Mozilla’s Communications team, you will spearhead initiatives that position Mozilla distinctively in the tech industry. You will differentiate us from “Big Tech” and showcase our leadership through our values-driven products. This role requires a comprehensive approach to communications, utilizing media as one of many channels to reach and engage diverse audiences, including consumers, partners, and policymakers. The ideal candidate thrives in collaborative environments, moves quickly with confidence, brings clarity to complexity, and is motivated by the opportunity to help build a healthier, more trustworthy internet.

What you'll do:

  • Lead proactive and reactive communications strategies for Mozilla’s Ads and Anonym teams, encompassing product storytelling, media relations, and reputation management.
  • Craft and execute a thought leadership roadmap, identifying key themes, venues, and spokespeople to elevate Mozilla’s role in shaping a better digital advertising ecosystem.
  • Collaborate closely with product, marketing, legal, and policy teams to ensure accurate, thoughtful, and mission-aligned messaging.
  • Provide direct support to executives, including developing messaging, preparing them for media interviews and speaking engagements, and offering coaching.
  • Build communications strategies and narratives that differentiate Mozilla from Big Tech, reinforcing our leadership in privacy-preserving innovation.
  • Drive cross-channel content creation (blogs, press materials, talking points, etc.) that aligns with strategic goals and the broader brand voice.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key media, analysts, and privacy and advertising stakeholders.
  • Identify and manage high-impact moments to insert Mozilla into relevant industry and cultural conversations.
  • Partner closely with external vendors, agencies, and internal stakeholders to execute programs efficiently and at a high standard.
  • Operate autonomously with a self-starter mindset, consistently generating fresh, creative ideas and uncovering new opportunities to drive visibility, even in the absence of major news or direction.

What you'll bring:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in communications, including experience in or an understanding of marketing and advertising.
  • 3+ years working for a product-driven organization in tech. (Advertising or ad tech industry experience is a bonus).
  • Proven experience working with engineering and technical communities.
  • BA degree or equivalent proficiency.
