Candidates should have 5+ years of backend development experience with deep expertise in Java, proven ability to solve complex problems, debug efficiently, and build high-quality systems. Experience designing and running cloud-based services (AWS, GCP, or Azure) including microservices architectures is required, with bonus points for experience with infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, or data-driven APIs. Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach are essential, along with a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Engineers will design and build backend services and APIs using Java, focusing on scalability, reliability, and performance. They will own technical projects from start to finish, including architecture, development, deployment, and ongoing improvements. Collaboration with Product Managers, UX Designers, and Frontend Engineers to deliver customer-centric features is expected, as is diving into technical challenges, identifying root causes, and developing practical solutions. Engineers will also play an active role in shaping Gong’s backend architecture as the company scales.
