The Analytics Engineering team is central to building our data infrastructure, ensuring a performant, scalable, and high-quality data warehouse. This role is crucial for enabling Monzo to make better and faster decisions. You will collaborate with product, engineering, and data science teams, and benefit from regular knowledge-sharing sessions.


Responsibilities

  • Build downstream data models from backend services (primarily in BigQuery) to make our Data Warehouse a competitive advantage.
  • Support internal reporting, machine learning, and financial/regulatory use cases.
  • Optimize the Data Warehouse, identifying opportunities to reduce complexity and cost.
  • Define and manage best practices for the Data Warehouse, including payload design, logical data modeling, implementation, metadata, and testing standards.
  • Set standards and ways of working with data across Monzo, collaborating with colleagues to implement them.
  • Apply established best practices and standards in other areas of the business.
  • Investigate and collaborate with colleagues to monitor and improve data quality within the warehouse.
  • Contribute to the prioritization of data governance issues.
  • Own and support the pipelines you contribute to, including expected on-call support out of hours from time to time.

Requirements

  • Enjoy working with cross-functional, fast-moving teams and have a passion for serving small businesses.
  • Ability to think strategically about the Business Banking product and how data models can unlock insights and customer value.
  • Strong passion for data modeling, ETL projects, and Big Data.
  • Experience working with data streams from various services (financial, transactional, operational).
  • Proficiency in SQL and data modeling.
  • Comfortable with general Data Warehousing concepts.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, proactively identifying and addressing challenges.
