Principal Program Manager - Electric Operations IT

Position Overview

A seasoned Principal Program Manager is sought to support the portfolio of all IT projects that support the Electric Operations team. This role will manage the portfolio of all IT projects supporting Electric Operations, including Distribution, Transmission, and Substation, up through the handoff to Construction. The position also includes select high-profile projects in support of Gas and ongoing Electric Operations.

Key Project Responsibilities

The current key project responsibilities include:

  • Substation design engineering (two projects)
  • Joint Pole and tenant pole compliance with CPUC Decisions (two projects)
  • Integrating grid monitoring sensors into systems of record (GIS; SAP)
  • Monitoring health for key substation equipment and predicting potential failures
  • Integrated Grid Planning for Electric and Gas: optimizing future investments in the energy grid.

Management and Coordination

This role involves managing project managers for these applications, including:

  • Tracking delivery
  • Reviewing deliverables
  • Ensuring focus remains on business outcomes
  • Monitoring financials
  • Coordinating with key business project stakeholders.

The portfolio consists of three programs: Electric Work Management; Asset Management; Investment Planning.

Future Demand Forecasting

The role will have a lead role in future year business planning (BPD) for IT work for Electric Operations, Asset Management, and Investment Planning. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting General Rate Case preparation for the IT portfolio for Electric and related future IT work.
  • Forecasting ongoing IT support costs for projects once they transition to fully operational.
  • Working with business partners to define future IT work they will be requesting.

IT Project Initiation and Contract Management

The Principal Program Manager will handle the IT project initiation process, which includes:

  • Funding approval and transfer
  • Approval from PROPEL and ELEVATE
  • Required assessments and approvals
  • Identifying project staffing needs and finding staff.

The role also leads contract activities in support of projects, from initial vendor SOW creation through negotiations (jointly with Sourcing), management approvals, and the mechanics of completing the contract and generating the Purchase Order.

Stakeholder Communication

Extensive communication with more senior management about the portfolio is a key aspect of this position.
