Requirements

  • Adheres to FMCNA Compliance Program, regulatory, and FMS policy requirements
  • Functions under direct supervision of a licensed nurse
  • Trained in FMCNA policies, procedures, and compliance with corporation, state, and federal regulations
  • Ability to setup and operate hemodialysis machines
  • Knowledge of patient education on adequacy measures (OLC, AMP, UKM) and disease process/access
  • Skills in vascular access evaluation, cannulation, vital signs monitoring, and heparin administration (as delegated or allowed by state law)
  • Capable of initiating, monitoring, and discontinuing dialysis treatments per prescribed orders
  • Ability to calculate and enter dialysis machine programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na modeling, UF modeling)
  • Ensures safety alarms are enabled (e.g., Narrow Venous Limits 160)
  • Accurate and timely documentation on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet and progress notes
  • Participation in Quality Enhancement Program (QEP), CQI activities, and process improvements

Responsibilities

  • Supports FMCNA mission, vision, core values, and customer service philosophy
  • Drives FMS culture through values and customer service standards; provides outstanding service to all customers
  • Develops and maintains effective relationships via timely communication; resolves customer service issues
  • Assists in patient education on adequacy measures and disease process/access
  • Welcomes patients, inquires about well-being, reports complaints/observations to nurse supervisor
  • Evaluates vascular access for patency pre-treatment and reports unusual findings
  • Obtains pre- and post-treatment vital signs and weight; reports unusual findings
  • Performs vascular access cannulation and reports difficulties/unusual findings
  • Administers Heparin as delegated or allowed by state law
  • Initiates dialysis treatment per orders (QB, QD)
  • Evaluates and intervenes in intradialytic problems per physician orders
  • Monitors patient response to dialysis and reports unusual findings
  • Obtains vital signs prior to reinfusion; performs discontinuation functions and documents
  • Discontinues dialysis per procedures; evaluates patient (standing/sitting BP) prior to venous access termination
  • Obtains hemostasis and applies dressings
  • Evaluates patient prior to discharge and reports unusual findings
  • Performs/records pre- and post-dialysis evaluations, weight, vital signs with initial identification
  • Calculates/enters patient-specific dialysis programming (UF goal, treatment time, Na/UF modeling)
  • Ensures safety alarms are enabled
  • Records vital signs and treatment parameters accurately/timely on Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet
  • Documents patient treatment information completely (Hemodialysis Treatment Sheet, progress notes)
  • Assists in maintaining safe and clean working environment
  • Actively participates in QEP, CQI, and process improvement activities for patient satisfaction and quality goals
