The Zebra is seeking a Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) Solutions Subject Matter Expert (SME) to act as an internal advisor and technical liaison during the implementation of a third-party VDI solution. This part-time contract role will support IT and Business Systems teams by providing hands-on expertise in VDI technologies, ensuring alignment with best practices, and facilitating knowledge transfer from the vendor to internal teams. The goal is to establish a sustainable and scalable VDI model that improves onboarding efficiency and enables secure, reliable virtual workspaces for both Windows and Linux users.

Contract Details

  • Hours: 30 hours/week
  • Scheduling: Flexible
  • Location: Remote (U.S. only, excluding California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and New York)

What You'll Do

Subject Matter Expertise

  • Act as the internal expert on VDI platforms, protocols, and deployment models (cloud, hybrid).
  • Evaluate vendor proposals and designs to ensure alignment with corporate standards, security policies, and operational needs.
  • Provide ongoing technical input throughout the project's implementation.

Implementation Support

  • Partner with internal stakeholders and the external vendor to ensure successful delivery of the VDI pilot and broader rollout.
  • Identify configuration gaps, potential risks, and opportunities for optimization based on hands-on experience.
  • Perform and document User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and system performance reviews.
  • Provide user support during implementation.

Knowledge Transfer & Documentation

  • Translate technical implementation details into actionable guides/SOPs for IT operations and support teams.
  • Review rollout plans, assist with internal training, and provide documentation for the environment and deployment process.

Collaboration & Advisory

  • Work closely with Compliance, IT, InfoSec, Engineering, and Sales teams to ensure the solution meets cross-functional requirements.
  • Advise on endpoint strategies, image management, remote access configurations, and user provisioning models.

What We're Looking For

Experience

  • 3+ years of practical experience supporting or implementing VDI solutions in an IT infrastructure role.
  • Proficiency with multiple VDI technologies such as Amazon WorkSpaces, Microsoft AVD, VMware VDI, or similar.

Skills

  • Experience with desktop virtualization, networking, Active Directory, identity management, and security best practices.
  • Hands-on experience supporting mixed desktop environments (Windows and Mac).
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical solutions in practical language between technical and business stakeholders.
